Noted Telugu film producer Edida Nageswara Rao died of the old-age-related illness on 4 October 2015 at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 81. He is survived by wife and a son.
Rao, the producer of 10 Telugu movies is known for his landmark films like Shankarabharanam (1979), Sagarasangamam (1983) and Swatimutyam (1986). His films helped him to garner four national awards as well as Nandi awards.
His other films included Tayaramma Bangarayya, Seetakoka Chiluka, Sitara, Swayamkrushi and Apatbandhavudu.
Siri Siri Muvva and Swatimutyam also had the distinction of being screened at Moscow Film Festival even as Shankarabharanam brought him critical acclaim at the global level.
His movie Swatimutyam was chosen as India’s official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1986, but was not nominated.
Rao, born on 24 April 1934, started his career as a theatre artiste, film actor, dubbing artiste turned up to be a film producer by launching Poornodaya Movie Creations in 1978. His first production under this banner was Siri Siri Muvva.
