Fredric Brandt, a dermatologist whose patients included Madonna and model Stephanie Seymour, was found dead in his Coral Gables, Florida, home on Sunday, according to multiple reports. He was 65.

Police offered no other information on the manner of his death, though a PR contact for the famed skin doctor confirmed his passing to PEOPLE.

“He passed away from a sudden death at his home in Coral Gables,” Susan Biegacz of Tractenberg & Co. said.

Brandt’s publicist, Jacquie Tractenberg, told the New York Post’s Page Six that he died after “suffering from an illness.”

“He passed away this morning,” she told the paper. “Everyone who knows him is devastated.”

Added Tractenberg: “I worked with him for over 20 years, and he was an amazing man. Not only was he a brilliant doctor, but he was the kindest human being.”

However, a Miami Herald columnist reported that Brandt had been “devastated” over comparisons to a character on Tina Fey’s new Netflix series, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and suggested the illness he had been suffering from was in fact depression.

The character, played by Martin Short, is named Dr. Grant (pronounced Franff) and is reportedly modeled after the dermatologist to the stars.

Brandt was one of the early proponents of Botox, championing the injectable drug from its conception nearly two decades ago.

“I’ve been kind of a pioneer in pushing the limits to see how things work and what the look would be,” the doctor told The New York Times in a profile recently.

“Would I change anything I’ve done? I might not have used as much Botox, because you don’t want to look quite as frozen.”
